Although unsigned, this dynamic watercolor with graphite or charcoal and crayon is a preparatory work for the 1973 print, Okabe, which was part of Sekino's print series, Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido, begun in 1959 and completed in 1974.

The sides carved through the olive-brown glaze with a broad band divided into two panels, one depicting a lotus plant, the other a ribbon-tied lotus leaf and a lotus with a pod, reserved on grounds of overlapping waves, and separated by two vertical panels carved with inscriptions, all between linear borders. One of the inscriptions may be read, hau xi ke ge ou, which may be translated as "underneath the flowers the travelers are singing in praise". The other may be read, hai zhong ren xiao yu, …
