Visual DescriptionPhotogravure from Portfolio II, The North American Indian

The old-time round dwelling of the Piman tribes. The word "ki" was usually about 15 in diameter. As the winter climate of southern Arizona is very mild, only a small fire was needed to keep the "ki" warm in even the coldest weather.

A woman sits at the top of a staircase of an adobe house, Laguna, New Mexico, in Isleta dress and wearing squash blossom necklace. She leans against the threshold of the house; another barely discernible figure stands just inside the open doorway.
