DescriptionTwo figures rest in front of a wooden fence and look at each other. On the left, a standing female figure with a tall brimmed hat and on the right, a seated figure with bare back facing the viewer. In the background, a view of water and sunset. This evening scene set in the Pacific island of Celebes was inspired by the French painter Édouard Manet’s "Luncheon on the Grass" of 1863.
