Visual DescriptionGrey bulbous pottery jar, impressed with a fine mesh pattern and applied with 2 S scrolls below the rim.
Jar with rounded base, flaring outward to half of height, tapering inwards and upwards to a nearly vertical wall on top quarter of height, rounded rim, interior is rounded.  Red band on interior of rim, broad red band on exterior of rim, alternating stripes of red and buff over frieze panel of alternating up and down chevrons with "s" scrolls in separating areas 2 red bands below, bottom is buff.

Set on a wooden mount (20th century), the massive pottery head of a Luohan with cream glaze suggesting skin tone and green glaze suggesting hair. Massive proportions of head and ears suggest figure was originally part of a larger-than-life-size sculpture.
