Cricket cage in a rectangular form with a domed roof. Of hammered iron with hammered silver, chrysanthemum-motif fittings. Signed on the reverse with a chiseled signature: Kōzan, and with a kakihan (Takase Kōzan or Kōzan I, 1868 – 1934).

Relief carved rectangular panel with two figures on top with moveable wooden lock; As a geometrically carved rectangle surmounted by two seated figures, with cross latch, darkened surfaces and a good patina.

Each side carved with Buddhist 'man' symbol, Confucian 'eumyang' symbol, and Daoist 'Directionsl' symbol, the front set with hinged doors. Original pigment remaining, legs later replaced, roof with later hinge.
