Descriptionpainting depicts bird’s eye view of battle scene with dozens of soldiers, in landscape with river filled with dead bodies, buildings ( houses) characteristic of Sagale. The central field and borders have inscriptions in Amharic—see details in attachment of translations by Dr. Peter Garretson.
Bottom of painting has inscription” I painted this Sälämon Bällachäw of the tribe [land] of Gojam, by the order of Haylä Sellasé king of Kings [Emporer ] of Ethiopia
