This skirt includes a small brass head on the waistband, which became a hallmark of Ansah’s designs produced in Ghana (it was an unofficial “trademark” of his designs).

A black robe with an embroidered badge on the front. A silver pheasant is embroidered on the badge, a motif of the 5th-rank civil official. The blue silk background contains the eight auspicious symbols. The sleeves are bordered with pink and have embroidery on both sides including symbols like flowers, cranes, and the stag of immortality. Tunic is black cotton damask (bazin) embroidered with multi-colored thread (red, blue, gold) in central diagonal parallel bands across front, embellished with alternating bands of beadworK (red, pink, green, white, yellow); Large bell sleeves, scoop neck. Skirt is same black dyed bazin as tunic, with a single stripe of embroidery in red, blue and gold thread. Red embroidered trim on neck and sleeves. Beaded headband has diamond pattern similar to those on tunic.

A long sleeve caftan/dress sewn from strips of wax print fabric likely Chinese imports and Woodin (a company that locally produces fabric in Ghana). The bodice of the caftan features horizontal strips, whereas the skirt of the dress relies on vertical strips. Each strip is formed from a mixture of long strips of fabric, interspersed with small squares of fabric. The caftan includes a designer label, which states: “Cloth on cloth designs by Tei Huagie, made in Ghana”.
