Korean Art Collection

Info

The Harn Museum of Art’s Korean art collection encompasses nearly 250 pieces of works, including ceramics, paintings, bronzes, architectural elements, furniture, prints, screens, and Buddhist sculptures. Spanning from the 5th century CE to the present time, this collection is built upon General James A. Van Fleet’s (1892-1992) generous donation to the University of Florida in 1988. Notable highlights include celadon vessels from the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392), blue-and-white porcelains from the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), a 17th-century Seated Bodhisattva and hanging scroll paintings by Kim Hongdo (1745-c.1806), Jang Seung’eop (1843-1897), and Kim Eunho (1892-1979). The recent decades have seen the continuous growth of the Korean art collection, exemplified by works from contemporary artists Do-Ho Suh (b. 1962).

The research and update of the Korean art collection database is generously supported by the National Museum of Korea. The National Museum of Korea Overseas Korean Gallery Support Program Research Assistant Micheal C. Walker and intern Madeline Menet (UF History 2024) contributed to the research and database update.
