DescriptionA sepia-toned photograph of three sculptures by Antonio Canova in the Vatican Museum: Creugas (1796, marble), Perseus (1790, marble), and Damoxenos (1796, marble) from left to right. Perseus stands in the center of the composition. He is placed atop a pedestal in an arched alcove, draped in cloth and holding a sword in his right hand and the severed head of Medusa in his left. On either side of him lies a statue of a boxer, nude except for a fig leaf and preparing for a fight.
