Visual Descriptionclose-up portrait (head and shoulders) of a refined woman wearing a drop pearl earring. Parted, oiled hair carefully arranged; lace collar; vignetted; oval frame. Handwritten on paper and pinned to inside of daguerreotype leatherette case padding, the word, “HILL.” Strong possibility of family connection between this daguerreotype and that of the little boy.

Eastern Zhou dynasty (770-256 BCE)
A large flag that is fabricated in a combination of applique, patchwork and embroidery techniques. The stitch work is refined and there is attention to detail: for example, the tongues and teeth of the three headed dragon are carefully embroidered; the ear, blood on the neck of the wounded victim are also highlighted. This flag is particularly interesting as it's flag looks more like a Norwegian flag (or cross) than a British flag.
