The recumbent bird finely carved with legs folded beneath the body and head arched back to lie flat besides one of the back-swept wings, the long tail feathers curled at the ends and layered on top and on the underside, the grayish-buff stone with dark brown mottling and fine russet veining throughout
Shown standing with head turned backwards while grasping a millet stem in its beak, the wings carved with dots and curled tips, the tail feathers represented in two overlapping rows, the pale greyish-white stone with soft polish and blackish-brown staining

Two Podiceps cristatus (Great Crested Grebe) birds shown sitting, each with mostly white bodies and black wings, head, and feet.  The bird in front has a red-orange and black crest , while the bird in the back has additional black feathers on its head.

The recumbent animal holding in its beak a leafy branch of blossoming lotus bloom enclosing a stylized shou medallion, the elaborately patterned wings swept back close to the body, the underside detailed with billowy waves, the stone of even tone with russet skin highlights.

This elegantly formed bird is depicted with wings outstretched and feet tightly tucked on the underside as if in flight. The detail of the eyes and feathers is rendered with incised lines. The artist has carefully and sensitively followed the natural shape and coloration of the pebble.

The graceful greyhound shown in a recumbent position with forepaws crossed and back legs tucked beneath the body, with long ears and coiled tail, one end of the long, bell-hung ribbon tied around the arched neck trailing beneath the belly, the slender body carved with pronounced ribs and backbone, the stone well polished and of even white tone.
