Visual Description1. Xena Sabinei (Fork-tailed gull), 2. Larus argentatus, var. occidentalis (Western gull, Common gull, Herring gull), 3. Larus marinus (Saddle-back, Great black backed gull, Cobb), 4. Anser hyperboreus (Snow goose, White Brandt), and 5. Mergellus albellus (Smew, White nun, White-headed or Drawf goosander). Multiple black and white gulls standing on rocks and land, floating in the water, and flying overhead. Plate 74 from "The Birds of North America".
Larus marinus (Great Black Backed Gull), a bird with a white body and black wings with white tips, and a pale yellow bill with blood-red spot on the lower mandible.
