DescriptionFour Calliphlox Amethystina (The Amethyst) hummingbirds; the female has a green back and head, white throat and chest, and light brown belly; a young male has a green back and belly, white chest, and white and green striped throat; two adult males have green backs and bellies, white chests, and blue and light red throats. Three of the birds stand on a plant with green leaves and small white flowers while another bird flies nearby. Plate 159 from volume III "A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds" (London, 1849-1861).
