This pair of pierced jade bowls with silver-gilt mounts are decorated with several motifs. The flattened chrysanthemum from which crowns the piece is Chinese in origin, however the intricately carved flowers which meander just underneath it are distinctly Indian. At the top and centre of the piece is the Chinese character for longevity and lattice-type designs that represent coins. Acanthus leaves are carved into the body of the bowls. (S.
