Carved from a section of ivory, the interior crisply carved in high relief with a scene of a lady standing on her balcony listening to her bird sing from a perch suspended from the branches of a tree, while in the foreground a lady tends to her flowering prunus tree, the exterior carved in low relief with a sprig of bamboo, the surface with a warm yellow patina.
